Founding story

Why Hearthmont, and why the Hudson Valley

In the Hudson Valley, rents have outpaced renter wages. Hudson Valley Pattern for Progress estimates that a tenant earning the average renter wage would spend 54% of income on rent for a one-bedroom apartment at Fair Market Rent in Orange County and 93% in Rockland County, far above the 30% cost-burden standard. Even two working tenants sharing a two-bedroom apartment would spend 35% and 51%, respectively.[1] Meeting this need at scale requires disciplined development, patient capital, public-private cooperation, and a long-term commitment to the people served.

Hearthmont is envisioned by co-founders Moishe Fekete and Rabbi Yaakov Flitchkin to combine real estate execution with strong partner and community relationships. Its purpose is to turn suitable land into thoughtfully planned, high-quality affordable homes, with sound financial stewardship and durable affordability. Success will be measured by the homes delivered, the quality of the communities, and the lasting opportunity created for residents.
